Music Coordinator – The music coordinator will assist the Africa music director during rehearsals and concerts. This will include assisting in rehearsals and vocal warm-ups before concerts, as well as stage management and wardrobe assistance during concerts. The right person for this job will have a background in vocal performance and/or musical theater. They might also have an opportunity to train new and upcoming choirs by spending six to nine months in Africa.
Sound & Light Technician – The sound and light technician will have the great task of ensuring each concert is of utmost sound and visual quality. They will be responsible for the set up and tear down at each concert venue, facilitate sound checks, and make sure each concert is punctual and running smoothly. It is also beneficial to have a tech who is also mechanically inclined to fix something on the spot during a concert. This position works closely with the music director and music coordinator.
Teacher – The choir children are home-schooled while traveling on tour. They follow a national curriculum from their country. Teaching experience is preferred, however most team members will have an opportunity to teach at least one subject during tour as a secondary role. Classes are taught in English.
Bus Driver – The bus driver will be responsible for making sure the team is transported in a safe, responsible, and punctual manner to each concert location. In addition to this, they will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the bus, logging miles driven, assisting in set-up/tear down at each concert, and parking the bus in a safe and reliable spot. The bus driver works closely with the tour leader on the weekly schedule and travel times. This person must hold a license to drive a tour bus.
Tour Leader – The tour leader manages the chaperones and children on the road. They are the liaison between the head office and the venue organizers. They are also responsible for the weekly schedules, team meetings and the overall public image of the traveling team. This person must have excellent communication and personal skills, good decision making, and be able to resolve conflicts. Cross cultural communication skills are also beneficial.
Administrator – The administrator handles all of the donations and collections that are taken on tour. They will also prepare bank deposits and fulfill other administrative duties that will take place on tour. This position works closely with the tour leader. Bookkeeping skills are beneficial.
Product Manager – The product manager will keep inventory of all retail products that are sold at the concerts. They will be responsible for setting up the product table, making and tracking sales, and keeping inventory. Marketing experience is appreciated and attention to details is important.
Nurse – The nurse will oversee the children’s health while on tour. At times this includes scheduling/requesting doctor’s appointments, accompanying the children to the doctor and distributing and medicines that are prescribed.
Communications – The communications director will help the choir update their fans and supporters by updating the Asante website and other online networks. this person should have good writing skills and be internet friendly.
